  blackoutpic Welcome to Blackout Bristol
Following our successful Blackout event of April 4th, Friends of the Earth Bristol will be asking for the lights to go out again on October 31st, and this time we have asked for the participation of many of the city’s iconic structures and buildings.

The event is intended to target especially those premises where office machinery is left on unnecessarily each and every night as well as interior and exterior lights that far exceed the needs of security. This is in the context of the global scientific consensus that the production of CO2 in electricity generation features big in global warming and that to avoid catastrophic climate change we must now move to the rapid development and deployment of renewable sources of energy coupled equally with a new culture of stringent energy conservation practices. The Blackout is to bring attention to the latter.

So if you live near or work in a building that is lit up like a Christmas tree even at 11pm on a Sunday night please let us know: we are looking for nominations for the city’s worst offenders and will be presenting a Trophy to the worst of them all! Equally, if the company you work for would like to sign up for the blackout as positive supporters please let us know that as well: we are keen to see more and more businesses show that they have tuned in to the issue of climate change. Our event will also include a shop sticker campaign, so watch this spot!
